If you prefer to drive through the lights as quickly as possible, travel in the opposite direction (North to South) on a week night, with Saturdays the busiest for traffic. The full recommended route is approximately six miles-long and should take the average walker an hour and 30 minutes, according to Google Maps. However if they are able to, visitors are encouraged to walk the majority of the route to get the best views of installations or alternatively, hop on a tram on the Pleasure Beach loop, for the duration or just a portion of the trip. The traditional way to witness the lights display in full, which stretches along the promenade from Starr Gate (Squires Gate) on the South Shore to Bispham in the North, is by driving along the route.
